Gabby Hayes Uncle Salt Lake

Publicity photo of Gabby Hayes and Roy Rogers ...Image via Wikipedia

Gabby goes under cover to expose two villains Harris and Cole, Assayers (Lloyd Whitlock Yakima Canutt) and clear his partner, Jerry Mason (John Wayne) of a trumped up murder charge. This humorous sequence is from The Lucky Texan (1934) made by Lone Star Productions and directed by RN Bradbury.

American motion-picture actor of the 1920s through 1950s. Well-known for playing the sidekick role to several star actors, including John Wayne, Roy Rogers, and Randolph Scott. He hosted "The Gabby Hayes Show" on television in the 1950s. (bio by: A.J. Marik)

Gabby was born in 1885 in Wellsville, New York. He did not come from a cowboy back round like many of us would think. He didn't even learn to ride a horse until his mid forties when he was forced too. He played semi-professional baseball while still in high school. In 1902, at the age of
17 he ran away from home and joined a stock company. He also started to perform with a traveling circus. He became so financially successful in both that he was able to retire in 1928.

Capital One Credit Card Dog

{{Potd/2008-03-06 (en)}}Image via Wikipedia

If you have a credit card you may want to take a look at this and pay close attention. I know yuo have probably notice the rising interest rates long before the banks fell bottomless now a couple of years age.

The banks say they need the revenue to offset record credit card delinquency rates, but those higher rates and additional fees are squeezing cash-strapped consumers, kicking them when they’re already down and out of money. Many of the banks that are raising fees are also the recipients of taxpayer money via the TARP bailout program, including American Express, Bank of America, Wells Fargo and Citigroup.

That raises a sticky issue: Are banks who received TARP money gouging some of the very same customers that gave them billions of dollars in taxpayer bailout money? That’s a question that the TARP oversight board, headed by Elizabeth Warren is trying to answer.

According to the Wall Street Journal, Warren’s committee is investigating the lending practices of institutions that received billions in public funds, following a rash of complaints about increases in interest rates and fees. The TARP money is supposed to be used to boost consumer borrowing, not crack down on people already struggling to pay their bills.

What do you think? Let us know. And you can also send your comments to Congress, which is weighing several pieces of legislation that would limit card issuers’ ability to hike fees.

Default rates for credit cards usually track the jobless rate during tough economic times, but analysts say they are seeing a worsening of defaults as unemployment rates jump. The government reported last week that the unemployment rate shot up to 8.5 percent in March, a 25-year high. Nearly all lenders, including Bank of America Corp., JPMorgan Chase & Co. and Discover Financial Services, are seeing more customers stop making monthly payments.

"I think what the numbers tell you is that we're not out of the woods yet. We are still seeing deterioration in consumer credit," Keefe, Bruyette & Woods analyst Sanjay Sakhrani said. "That's largely predicated on where unemployment trends are."

Have you read the fine print that comes with your credit card bill lately? If not, you should -- and the chances are you're not going to like what you see.

Despite record foreclosures, defaults and recession-related hardship, credit card companies are boosting interest rates, changing account terms and cutting credit lines for both good and bad customers.

It's a push, experts say, to make up for bank losses in other areas, particularly the mortgage market, and a way to squeeze more fees from consumers before new federal rules prohibiting such sharp interest rate increases and other credit card company abuses go into effect next year.

Susan Boyle Sings Les Miserables Simon Cowell

Susan BoyleImage by Bert Kommerij via Flickr

Susan Boyle Sings Les Miserables Simon Cowell. A long lost recording of Scottish singing sensation Susan Boyle singing Cry Me A River has been unearthed. Boyle, if you missed the story, has become an international sensation after footage of the 47 year old, dowdy, unemployed virgin ...

The Daily Record has a track of Susan Boyle singing another song than I Dreamed a Dream. Apparently she contributed a version of Cry Me a River to a local charity CD in 1999. The Record says: Only 1000 copies of the disc were ever ...

Watch Susan on youtube video

Dressed in a simple white dress, Boyle was as charming as she seemed on Britain's Got Talent. "The ones who were mean to me, are now nice to me," she said referring to skeptics who didn't think a person not as glamorously packaged as your average pop star could wow audiences with pure ability and emotion.

In an interesting touch, the Early Show had Patti LuPone, who originated the performance of "Dream" in Les Miserables, on the phone to offer both emotional and technical praise to Boyle. LuPone talking about how "difficult" the song is to sing, "especially at the end," referring to its rafter-shaking climax. LuPone congratulated Boyle on her "pluck." Asked by co-host Harry Smith what LuPone's compliments meant to her, Boyle said simply, "That'll do."

NBA Playoff Bracket 2009

AUBURN HILLS, MI - APRIL 20: Thaddeus Young #...Image by Getty Images via Daylife

That sucked, but then the Hornets bracket is significantly better off for it. Shrug. (I’m not accusing them of throwing OT– if you saw the look on CP’s face during the postgame interview you know that wasn’t the case) but it is what it is. ... The Magic have been like the Chicago Cubs of the NBA.

The 2009 NBA playoff bracket and schedule is finally complete after one final day of adjustments. The NBA playoff schedule was always set to start Saturday, but the bracket is now all filled out. The top of the Eastern Conference bracket was completed days ago.

2009 NBA Playoff Bracket, Schedule Complete for First Round but now the top teams know which .500 teams they will play to start the NB A playoffs. The Western Conference's 2-8 seeds beat up on each other one last time to determine
their bracket order, while the Lakers just rested up. Now, the 2009 NBA playoff bracket and schedule can be broken down, as can the road to the NBA Finals.

the East, the bracket is set for the Cavaliers, Celtics a nd Magic to finally begin their journey after months of waiting. The Cavaliers are set to play an old playoff rival, the eighth seeded Pistons - who used to take on the Cavaliers in better days. This part of the playoff bracket was set on Tuesday.

The Cavaliers played a part in who would get the sixth and seventh seeds, by not playing their regulars against the Sixers. As such, the Sixers beat the Cavaliers - though they needed overtime even against their scrubs. Therefore, the Sixers moved up the NBA playoff bracket to the sixth seed, where they will play the Magic. The Celtics are left to play the Bulls.
